“In a valley…near a village…there the children say they’ve seen Him…” Across 16th-Century Europe, Christmas songs and tales were often passed from village to village as a means for portraying to peasant children the magical wonder of the nativity story. This original new song from The Front Porch Country Band, written to be sung in French, is presented here in the band’s equally-popular Olde-English translation. Performed as a round, with rich vocal harmonies atop a ¾ waltz-time instrumental style reminiscent of another Christmas classic, “Away In A Manger,” listeners may well envision the Christmas of an earlier era, with musicians playing before simple villagers or a French king’s 16th-century royal court.
